Find Your Writing Niche: Set Goals for 2015

At the end of each year, I look back and assess my writing accomplishments. Then I look forward and set the goals for the New Year.

I didn’t reach all the goals I had set for myself in 2014, and that is disappointing. It wasn’t because I didn’t try, but life got in the way. I usually set too many goals and get sidetracked by all the distractions that are so appealing, like writers’ groups, critiquing, writing conferences, workshops and the like. That’s in addition to family, friends and all the activities outside of writing.

In 2015 I’ll try to make fewer goals that I am sure I can accomplish. One of them is to cut back on the number of blogs I write. I’ve slashed the number to once a week instead of twice. “Find Your Writing Niche” will appear the first and third Tuesdays. “Women and Adversity” will appear the second and fourth Thursdays. No blog will appear when there is a fifth Tuesday or Thursday.

The major goal I didn’t reach in 2014 was to finish the third in my House on Terra Lane trilogy. That is my first goal for 2015.

There are three writers’ conferences I want to attend, but they are all within five weeks of each other. Wise decisions are necessary here.

Set your writing goals and look forward to a well-published year.

Good luck to all writers in achieving their 2015 goals.

I published three ebooks in 2020: Women and Adversity, Honoring 23 Black Women; Women and Adversity, Recognizing 23 Notable Mothers; and Women and Adversity, Saluting 23 Faithful Suffragists to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. These books are meant to be study guides for all students from grade school through college to help in choosing topics for assignments and to learn more about these noteworthy women.
