vocabularyFind Your Writing Niche: www.vocabulary.com

A Google search for a story I was writing recently made me aware of www.vocabulary.com. The fascinating site states on its home page that it is “the quickest, most intelligent way to improve your vocabulary.”

I started with THE CHALLENGE on the menu bar, a multiple choice exercise, and couldn’t quit. The exercise includes a sentence with a word in bold type or a blank space so you can fill in the correct word. You get to choose one of four words. If your choice is the correct word, you get to go to the next word. If your choice is incorrect, you have a mini lesson about the word and its meaning. Sometimes a word is superimposed at the intersection of four pictures, and you are asked to choose the picture that represents the word. What fun!

It is especially helpful for students and teachers, but professional writers can benefit as well. Under HOW IT WORKS, you answer questions, and you receive a profile of your ability and needs. Since it is totally individualized, you learn the words you don’t know.

Check out www.vocabulary.com and have fun with it.

I published three ebooks in 2020: Women and Adversity, Honoring 23 Black Women; Women and Adversity, Recognizing 23 Notable Mothers; and Women and Adversity, Saluting 23 Faithful Suffragists to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. These books are meant to be study guides for all students from grade school through college to help in choosing topics for assignments and to learn more about these noteworthy women. Go to amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and goodreads.com to learn more.
