A Blog for Writers: Women and Adversity, Vanna White

Vanna White

Vanna White

Known since 1982 for her poise, elegance and beauty as co-host of Wheel of Fortune, Vanna White has a connection to the publishing industry. She co-wrote with Patricia Romanowski her authobiography, “Vanna Speaks” in 1987.

A native of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Vanna reveals the pride she has of her roots. She continues to connect with her hometown through the display of items she donated to the North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum. I have covered stories about the museum and have seen the display so decided to contact Vanna and ask her to participate in my blog. With her signature grace, she agreed.

Question 1: Why did you decide to write “Vanna Speaks”?

Vanna: I decided to write my book because for so many years on Wheel, I hardly spoke and people kept wanting to know more about me, so I decided to write about my life to share with them.

Question 2: What was the biggest obstacle you had to face when you decided to write it?

Vanna: It wasn’t that hard for me because Warner Books came to me, so I had a publisher and a ghostwriter to help me.

Question 3: What was the most difficult part of writing the book?

Vanna: To tell “all.” I’m a very private person so it’s hard to share difficult times in your life with other people, but I wanted people to know that I go through the same things that everyone goes through.

Question 4: Do you plan to write another book?

Vanna: Not at this time but possibly down the road.

Vanna’s answers indicate she has stayed grounded even though she is one of the most recognized women int he world. Her biography is at
