Find Your Writing Niche: Choose Religion

About 87 percent of the U.S. population adheres to a religion, 83 percent of them being Christian. This means that more than 300 million people may read something about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism or their preferred religion.

A search of the religion you follow will bring up the pertinent magazines. Some Web sites make it easy for freelancers and have the information readily available. Such as:

 Hinduism Today magazine at http://www.hinduismtoday.com/modules/wfchannel/index.php?wfc_cid=7.

 The Lutheran at http://www.thelutheran.org/template/page.cfm?id=42.

Liguorian Magazine for Catholics at www.liguorian.org. One of the menu items at the top of its homepage is Submissions. That page spells out exactly how to submit to the magazine, what it expects and what the writer can expect.

Relevant magazine publishes stories for Christians as well. At http://www.relevantmagazine.com/how-write-relevant, writers get all the information they need.

Alive Now at http://alivenow.upperroom.org/writers, posts themes and gives a timeline for the stories.

A common subject that many religious or inspirational magazines are interested in publishing is personal stories, especially those of survival. Overcoming a major setback, living with a handicap or special need encourages the readers who may think there is no hope.

Religious writing offers opportunities to freelancers who have a message that can be encouraging to readers.

I published three ebooks in 2020: Women and Adversity, Honoring 23 Black Women; Women and Adversity, Recognizing 23 Notable Mothers; and Women and Adversity, Saluting 23 Faithful Suffragists to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. These books are meant to be study guides for all students from grade school through college to help in choosing topics for assignments and to learn more about these noteworthy women. Go to amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and goodreads.com to learn more.
