Eline van der Velden is brilliant although few Americans have heard of her or would recognize her. She created a firestorm of publicity and controversy with the labor union SAG-AFTRA, Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, over her artificial intelligence character, Tilly Norwood. The union believes they will lose jobs if AI actors take over. Van der Velden disagrees. “AI is like a calculator for the creative mind,” she says, and considers AI a tool. “You still have to have taste and judgment in order to make anything good.”
Van der Velden founded her AI production company Particle6 in 2015 and its talent studio, Xicoia, introduced AI actress Tilly Norwood in September 2025 in a short film clip titled “AI Commissioner.” An entire film featuring Norwood is said to be released in 2026.
Van der Velden wanted to be an actress, but her parents convinced her to earn a college degree, and she majored in physics. She did pursue acting and was featured on Dutch television for De Troon, Beatrix and Overspel. She has created web-based shows and comedy sketches, including “Match.com Parody” and “Sketch My Life.”
AI has taken over people’s interest because of its far-reaching effects. Van der Velden is at the forefront of this revolution.
